A 39-year-old man caught stealing a laptop from a Tampa Wal-Mart told police Monday that he had been "running an elaborate scheme to defraud, spanning multiple counties," Tampa police say.
Police arrested Joseph Krueger of Tallahassee at 5:20 p.m. Monday.
Krueger took a laptop and food from the store at 1505 N. Dale Mabry Highway and, using a fake payment receipt, told a clerk he had paid for the computer in the electronics section, an arrest report states.
Store security tried detaining him. He fought but eventually was detained until officers arrived, police say.
Officers determined Kruger "had additional computer items, a printer, a store merchandise scanner and numerous 'receipts' from various Walmart stores throughout Florida," according to the report.
Krueger was charged with robbery and using a fraudulent receipt to obtain property.
Investigators say they haven't determined the amounts of theft. An investigation is ongoing. Police seized Krueger's 2007 Toyota Tundra for forfeiture.
Krueger works for Mirage Computers, according to the Hillsborough County Jail Web site.
He remains in Orient Road Jail. His bail has been set at $8,000.
