Tampa man accused of abusing dogs, puppies

Hillsborough County Animal Services investigators have arrested a man they say abused and improperly housed several dogs and puppies.

Anthony Greene, 27, of 3916 W. Pine St., has been charged with one count of cruelty to animals and six counts of confinement of animals without food and water.

Investigators got an anonymous tip Tuesday that Greene was neglecting his dogs, Animal Services spokeswoman Marti Ryan said.

The animals were kept in cages outdoors without shelter from the elements, investigators say.

Among those canines is a brown and white pit bull mix that has a prolapsed rectum, Ryan said. It appears that Greene tried to give the dog medical treatment himself instead of taking it to the veterinarian, she said.

Greene is not a licensed veterinarian, Ryan said.

Also found was a large underweight Rottweiler with an eye infection. At least six dogs were seized by Animal Services and taken to veterinarians. All the dogs have hookworms and other ailments, Ryan said.

"It's very horrific," Ryan said. "This guy's not a good doggy dad."

Greene was being held Tuesday night on $5,000 bail at Falkenburg Road Jail.
