Dice Game Debt Leads To Gunshot, Police Say

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A dispute over $4 owed in a dice game led to a gunshot, police say.

Following an argument, Rechi Butler, 20, punched a man in the face and pulled out a gun, according to an arrest report. The men struggled over the gun and Butler fired a shot.

No one was shot in the incident Saturday evening at 4802 E. Louisiana Ave., but the victim suffered a minor face injury.

The gun wasn't recovered.

Butler, of 2613 E. Palifox St., was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and battery. He wasn't charged with gambling because the dice game wasn't witnessed by a police officer, Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.

Butler remained in Orient Road Jail today with bail was set at $8,000.

In June 2007, police shot Butler in the arm while an officer was trying to arrest him at his home on a charge of felony aggravated assault with a firearm, police said. The bullet passed through Butler's right arm and struck his hip.

Butler ignored an order to show his hands and reached for his pockets, police said. Officers thought he was reaching for a gun.

Butler was not armed, police said.
