City firefighters put out two blazes in South Tampa Monday, one in a large shed, the other in a house converted into apartments.

There were no injuries in either.

The first fire at 3200 W. Obispo St. was reported at 9:15 a.m. and firefighters found flames coming from a large, backyard shed, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

The homeowner, Russ Burcham, was at work when the fire started but returned home when neighbors called. The fire was under control in about 15 minutes, the fire department said.

Investigators determined an electrical short started the fire. The blaze destroyed the shed that also contained a utility room with a washer, dryer and other household items.

The fire department estimated the fire caused $30,000 in damage.

Units from fire stations in Palma Ceia, South of Gandy and Hyde Park responded.

And at 7:30 p.m., crews from the same stations were called to 2706 W. Tyson Ave. where they found smoke coming from a house that had been converted into three apartments.

The fire department said Brenda Lambert, 26, became distracted while cooking dinner and grease on the stove caught fire and ignited the cabinets.

Damage was limited to one apartment and estimated at $10,000, the department said.
