A woman accused of shoplifting while out on bond for DUI causing death will stay in jail until a new bond is set.
So said Circuit Judge Stephen Rushing after an impromptu hearing was held this morning to decide Barbara Diffendal's immediate future.
Diffendal was arrested in September in connection with a traffic crash in January that killed a 34-year-old Spring Hill mother, Jeanine Bethoney. She posted a $50,000 bond on her charges of failing to render aid in a DUI causing death and causing death while driving without a valid license.
On April 8, Diffendal was given a misdemeanor citation for retail theft after she was caught stuffing $38 worth of air fresheners in her purse, according to a report. A recommitment order revoking her bond was issued days later, but it wasn't until Diffendal showed up for an arraignment Wednesday that the warrant was served.
Today, a brief hearing was scheduled to determine whether Diffendal should be granted a new bond.
