A father and son accused of downloading child pornography were arrested Wednesday by Polk County sheriff's deputies.
Wesley Stump, 67, and his son Roger Stump, 37, are registered sex offenders, sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer said. Both men have been charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography.
Arrest reports give this account of what happened Wednesday at the Stumps' home, 7 Ave. A N., in Auburndale:
Roger Stump's wife, Dani, found videos of children ages 6-10 engaged in sexual acts on a computer that all family members share. She called the sheriff's office and detectives seized the computer. Dani Stump told investigators that her father-in-law uses the computer several hours a day and sometimes shuts the door.
Stump and his father were not at home when the videos were discovered.
After a search warrant was issued, detectives found more videos that had been transferred onto a CD. When the men got home and were questioned by detectives, both denied ownership of the videos.
Wesley Stump was arrested and convicted in Hillsborough County in 1986 for sexual battery, Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show. Roger Stump was arrested and convicted in Hillsborough County in 1998 on charges of sexual battery on a victim under 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 16, records show.
They are being held today without bail at Polk County Jail.
Roger Stump's older brother, Robert Vernon Stump, 40, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence at Hamilton Correctional Institute after being convicted in 2000 of molesting a child under 12, Eleazer said.
