A 56-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon after she lost control of her sport utility vehicle on Interstate 75 just north of Fletcher Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Elisa Obediente of Tampa was taken to University Community Hospital where she died from her injuries, the highway patrol said.
Troopers give this account of what happened about 2:30 p.m.:
Obediente was driving south on I-75 when her 1998 Toyota 4Runner began to move into a lane occupied by another vehicle. Obediente tried to avoid the collision, over-corrected her steering and lost control of the SUV.
The Toyota flipped several times. A tire came off the 4Runner and struck a 2001 Dodge driven by Roderick Crockett of Tampa. Crockett and a passenger were not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
