A 57-year-old St. Petersburg woman has died of injuries suffered in a mobile home fire.
The woman suffered second- and third-degree burns to about 50 percent of her body, St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue spokesman Lt. Joel Granata said. The woman had life threatening injuries when she was taken by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital. She died about 8 p.m.
Pinellas County sheriff's deputies identified the woman as Vanessa Tarlton on Sunday night.
The fire started about 4:15 p.m. at the Silver Lake mobile home park, 4000 24th St. N., Lot No. 305, Granata said.
Firefighters arriving at the scene reported smoke and flames showing through the roof of a mobile home, Lealman Fire District spokesman Capt. Larry Thompson said.
Detectives say a portion of the charred structure collapsed on the female victim. Firefighters found the woman inside and carried her out, Thompson said.
The Lealman Fire District, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and the state Fire Marshal's office are investigating the cause of the blaze. The fire does not seem suspicious, authorities say.
