A 38-year-old man on probation for attempted sexual battery of a child swung a machete back and forth this morning and told his wife he was going to kill her and himself, Tampa police say.
The couple have been married five years, and the victim's teenage daughter saw the machete incident, an arrest report states.
Police arrested Virticee Thompson about 3 a.m. today. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and violating probation. He remains in jail today, and no bail has been set.
Thompson spent more than two years in prison following his 2001 conviction in Polk County for attempted sexual battery on a child younger than 12. He was released in July 2003.
