A St. Petersburg man was arrested today, charged with driving under the influence-manslaughter six weeks ago when the 2005 Toyota pickup he was operating slammed into the rear of another car, killing a passenger and injuring two others.
Thomas Stockton Corbin, 39, of St. Petersburg, was also charged with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury.
Clearwater police said that just before midnight Sept. 24 Corbin was driving eastbound on Gulf to Bay Boulevard and rear-ended a 1999 Nissan that was stopped at Hampton Road.
The driver of the Nissan and two passengers were seriously injured and hospitalized. Maxwell Limonick, 23, of Santa Barbara, Calif., died of his injuries Oct. 2.
The Nissan's driver, JonPaul N. Reed, 24, of Clearwater, and passenger Brian Michael Johns, 25, of Ranch Cucamonga, Calif., have recovered from their injuries.
Police said that Corbin's blood-alcohol level was 0.2. In Florida, a driver is considered impaired with a level of 0.08 or higher.
This week, police presented their investigation to the Pinellas-Pasco State Attorney's Office, which decided to press charges against Corbin. He was arrested at his home early this morning, police said.
