An Apollo Beach woman who was severely burned during what authorities say was a domestic dispute is getting help from her college classmates and co-workers.
Hillsborough Community College's Southshore campus at 551 24th St. NE in Ruskin is accepting donations for Audrey Mabrey and her sons, ages 4 and 18 months.
"Our students and staff have pulled together," spokeswoman Ashley Carl said.
Clothing, toys, diapers and other items can be dropped off at the Southshore campus' student services center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
The parent company of the Chili's Bar & Grill in Brandon where Mabrey works is also chipping in.
The restaurant will provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for Mabrey's family, company spokeswoman Danielle Smith said.
Mabrey, 26, has burns to 80 percent of her body and is listed in critical but stable condition today at Tampa General Hospital, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies say accelerant had been dumped on Mabrey and her Apollo Beach home set ablaze during a dispute with her husband, Christopher Hanney.
With her clothes on fire, Mabrey ran from her house to a neighbor's and said Hanney "had done this to her," investigators say.
Hanney, who was also burned, was found in the backyard. He is accused of hitting Mabrey in the head with a hammer and setting her on fire. Hanney has been charged with attempted first degree murder and is being held without bail at Orient Road Jail.
The couple's sons were not at home during the incident. Carl said a classmate is caring for the children until Mabrey's parents, who live in another state, arrive in Tampa.
The family lost all their possessions in the blaze, Carl said.
