Tampa police are investigating an overnight crash that sent a driver to the hospital.
Officers responded to the crash near Gandy Boulevard and North Dale Mabry Highway at 12:25 a.m. today. When they arrived, officers discovered a wrecked sedan and a white van.
Investigators believe the driver of the van rear-ended the Chrysler sedan. Tampa Fire Rescue crews had to extricate the driver of the car. His name and condition have not been released.
Witnesses say when the van flipped on its side, it slid 350 to 400 yards through the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and Himes Avenue before righting itself and hitting a palm tree head-on.
"I was walking by when the man in the white van hit the car and then he slid down," said Eduardo, who said he witnessed the crash.
Police are questioning the driver of the van.
