When an officer on foot patrol this morning saw the driver of a Pontiac traveling 15 mph above the speed limit on Union Street, he yelled at the driver to stop.
Instead, the driver "intentionally and aggressively swerved the vehicle" toward another officer, Tampa police say.
About 2 a.m., police arrested Jovenson Emile, 20, of Tampa.
Emile was driving 40 mph in a 25 mph zone when officers first saw him, police say. The Pontiac's windows were partially down. After Emile swerved toward the officer, the officer jumped back to avoid being struck, according to police.
Again, police told Emile to stop. Instead, police say, Emile drove east, driving past a stop sign at Union and Oregon Avenue, then headed south on Oregon and pulled into a dark parking lot in an attempt to hide.
Emile was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and attempting to elude police and trespassing. He remains in jail, with bail at $10,000.
