Two teenage boys struck by a car Tuesday morning as they walked to their school bus stop in Hudson remain in stable condition, a hospital spokesman said.

William B. Calder, 13, and Walter Edelman, 15, both of Hudson, were walking in the street when they were hit, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

It happened on Utica Drive just south of New York Avenue around 7 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Deanna Leggio of Hudson, told troopers she had to swerve to miss a group of children walking on Utica and didn't see the two boys, who were walking apart from the group, FHP Sgt. Larry Kraus said.

Leggio wasn't hurt.

The boys are at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Edelman is a ninth-grader at Hudson High School and Calder is a seventh-grader at Hudson Middle School.

The school district continued its review of the incident on Wednesday. Meanwhile, troopers continued their investigation of the accident.
