A runaway car plunged into the Intracoastal Waterway in Nokomis this afternoon and quickly sank. The scene was captured by a local news crew shooting video from a nearby boat.
The reporter and photographer from SNN News 6, a 24-hour news station based in Sarasota were working on a story about boating safety.
"We were just shooting video of boats going by," said reporter Mia McCormick.
Photographer Chris Kennedy was capturing video of a passing boat when the car went into the water in the background.
They maneuvered closer to the car and can be heard calling local authorities about the sinking automobile. The car, a four-door Geo Prism, was unoccupied and had its front windows down as it sank into the water in a mater of minutes. The Prism apparently had been parked at a nearby boat ramp.
No was was injured in the accident.
