»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Newsome High School girls' volleyball team has been having one of its best seasons ever, despite a poor showing at the 25th Annual Tampa Bay Invitational Dig Pink Tournament at the University of Tampa Oct. 9. As of Oct. 20, the team was 10-2 overall, 5-1 in districts and is now playing in the District 5A tournament, which ends this week. Head Coach Kate Correa, who played for Tampa Preparatory School and Pepperdine University, said although the team finished second from last in the invitational tournament, overall, the team has been outstanding. She cited seniors Hillary Byrd and Lauren Zellmer for their contributions and leadership this season.

"It was a learning experience; it wasn't about winning or losing, it was playing your best every game," she said.
