Police have arrested a teen in connection with the attempted rape of a 38-year-old woman in an Ybor City parking garage.
Javon Cooper, 16, of Tampa, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, attempted sexual battery and aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
Police say the victim was getting into her car Aug. 19 at the garage on North 13th Street when she was grabbed from behind and strangled. The woman passed out. When she regained consciousness, she saw the suspect running away and realized her pants and underwear had been removed, police say.
The victim gave police a description of the attacker. Based on that, officers arrested Cooper on Thursday. He was also wanted on warrants for burglary, grand theft and vehicle theft, police say.
He was being held Friday at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
