Pow! Kablooey!
Looks like it might be over, Batman!
DC Comics has filed notice that it is withdrawing its federal lawsuit brought in July against a Bradenton man who made figurines of characters from the 1960s "Batman" television series. The lawsuit was withdrawn "without prejudice," meaning it may be filed again.
Meanwhile, the target of the lawsuit says he no longer sells the plastic figures or the kits to make them.
"I no longer produce kits," John Stacks says on his Web site, www.johnnysresin.com.
Although the site still has photos of some of the disputed figures, including Adam West portraying Batman, they are accompanied by a disclaimer: "My own personal model. Not for sale."
The main page of the Web site has a link to DC Comics' site and the statement, "I encourage all fans to buy licensed products only. When you buy products not licensed by DC Comics you only hurt the hobby. Let's all work together to keep Batman Alive!!!!"
Neither Stacks nor DC Comics representatives could be reached for comment today.
