A Hillsborough County courthouse spokesman was found with marijuana at his home about an hour after he left the scene of a crash, Tampa police say.
The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday near Highland Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
A woman's vehicle was rear-ended by a sport utility vehicle, which drove off westbound, and the victim took down the SUV's tag number, Davis said.
Police tracked the SUV's tag to Calvin Green, 56, and came to his South Tampa home. He was sleeping when police officers arrived, and no one answered the door when they knocked.
Officers walked around the home and saw Green through a window as he slept on a bed with "a clear bag containing a green leafy substance," a police report states. The officer knocked on the window and woke up Green, who met the officers at the front door.
An officer received permission to search the room and located the plastic bag, with 19 grams of marijuana, and a pipe on the bed, the report states.
Green provided a written confession "claiming ownership of the marijuana," the report states.
Green received a notice to appear in court on a future date, police said.
Following the crash, he was cited with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, Davis said.
Green declined to comment today. His attorney couldn't be immediately reached.
