A 65-year-old woman was killed this afternoon when a car hit her while she was in a parking lot.
Police aren't releasing the name of the woman who they say died about 4:15 p.m. when she was hit by a Plymouth Voyager van driven by Edward Kirby, 65, of St. Petersburg.
Police said Kirby was picking up his fiancé at the Gandy Center when he struck the woman. Kirby may have pushed the accelerator instead of the brakes, police said.
The woman was taken to St. Petersburg Northside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:09 p.m. Kirby was also taken to the same hospital complaining of chest pains.
Officials say they are investigating the incident as a possible DUI.
