A Tierra Verde woman died Thursday night after the three-wheeled motorcycle she was riding on lost a wheel and crashed, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Janet Riley, 63, was a passenger in the motorcycle driven by William Riley, 63, of Tierra Verde at about 7:35 p.m.
They were heading south in the center lane of Interstate 275 at 28th Street South, officials said. The left rear wheel of the 2009 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle came off, causing the driver to lose control.
Both Janet and William Riley were ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the grass median, officials said.
Janet Riley died at the scene. William Riley was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg in serious condition.
The crash remains under investigation, officials said.
