A Tampa man died early today after a loose tire from another vehicle struck his tractor-trailer on Interstate 4, and he lost control and crashed, investigators said.
William Morales, 45, of Tampa, was driving the FedEx tractor-trailer, which hit a concrete barrier wall and concrete pillars at the U.S. 301 overpass about 3 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said. Morales died at the scene.
A tire broke loose from a 1995 GMC truck driven by Felix Rios, 51, of Miami, and traveled into the path of Morales' tractor-trailer, troopers said.
Rios was not injured.
The crash shut down two westbound lanes of I-4 for several hours this morning.
