Child dies from injuries in Wesley Chapel crash

A child has died from injuries sustained in a crash Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

One-year-old Jaylin Dominguez, of Tampa, died Saturday from injuries sustained in the accident. Raul Bertran Jr., 67, of Brandon, was driving a car when he drove into oncoming traffic. He died at the scene of 8 p.m. Thursday accident, FHP said.

Dominguez was a passenger in a 2004 Honda that included driver Nadine Maldonado, 20, of Tampa, and passenger Simon Dominguez, 25, of Wesley Chapel, FHP said.

Maldonado and Simon Dominguez suffered serious injuries in the accident that occurred at Bruce B. Downs Boulevard just south of State Road 54. They were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, FHP said.

Bertran was traveling south on Bruce B. Downs in a 2010 Cadillac sport utility vehicle when he crossed the center lane, FHP said.

The front of the Cadillac struck the front of a 2004 blue Honda heading north, FHP said.
