A 12-year-old boy died Tuesday after he was struck by a car while bicycling on Van Dyke Road.
Mitchell Bowers of Lutz was heading west in the bicycle lane of Van Dyke Road approaching Currie Ford Drive when he was struck at about 6:45 p.m.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies said Bola Rezk-Alla, 87, was also westbound on Van Dyke in a 2001 Honda when Bowers turned left in front of the car.
Bowers, of 17611 Archland Pass, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
No citations have been issued.
One of Bowers' teachers will speak with the media this afternoon about the boy.
