A former Pinellas County teacher involved in a fatal crash in April has been arrested and extradited back to Pasco County.
Pasco detectives traveled this week to Troy, N.Y., where Deborah Terrero was arrested Jan. 16 on a Pasco warrant and signed a waiver of extradition to face charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and DUI. She was booked into the Land O' Lakes Jail on Thursday.
Authorities say on April 5, a passenger on a motorcycle, Nicole Cetrangolo, 37, was killed at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Oakley Avenue at about 2 a.m.
A 1999 Ford sports utility vehicle driven by Terrero, 53, of New Port Richey, was heading west on Oakley Avenue and went through a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 19, according to the accident report.
The driver of the motorcycle, Kenneth Dillon, 48, was heading north on U.S. 19 and tried to avoid the vehicle by turning into the center lane. Terrero made a wide turn and drove into the same lane, the troopers said.
The motorcycle, a 2007 Triumph, hit the back of the SUV and Cetrangolo, of New Port Richey, died at the scene.
Dillon sustained serious injuries but survived. Neither he nor Cetrangolo were wearing helmets, according to the highway patrol.
Terrero and passenger Meghan Flareau, 24, of Hudson, were not injured.
According to the warrant, Terrero was under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance at the time of the crash. Terrero had been a teacher for Pinellas County School District's hospital and homebound program until 2008.
She is being held at the Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $450,000.
According to an obituary in her hometown paper, The World, Centrangolo was born in Vermont and was a graduate of Norwich University where she was a member of the women's rugby team.
After moving to West Virginia for awhile, she started researching trauma and dedicated her life to helping anyone suffering from trauma. When she died she was in the process of writing a book on the subject.
