The Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed that two people died and six were injured Saturday night after an all-terrain vehicle crashed into an SUV.
The accident happened at intersection of Goodstone Dr. and Umbrella Rock Street. The intersection is located near U.S. 301, and just west of the Sumter County line.
The identities of two people on the ATV have not been confirmed.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported in critical condition to Pasco Regional Hospital, troopers said.
The driver and six passengers in the 2002 Ford SUV received mostly minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals in Pasco and Hernando counties, according to an accident report.
The accident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m.
Troopers said the Arctic Cat ATV was traveling southbound along Goodstone when the driver of the ATV crossed into the path of the SUV. The latter was traveling eastbound on Umbrella Rock.
The ATV struck the left rear of the SUV, causing it to overturn, according to the report.
FHP is continuing to investigate.
