Woman faces charge of driving without license - for 26th time

Jennifer Miller insists she isn't driving any more.

"I've been in jail. I've been to prison for driving on a suspended license, but not recently," she said, standing outside her home in Trilby. "I've been doing good."

But Dade City police Chief Ray Velboom disagrees. He says his officers caught Miller driving without a license on Feb. 21. It's the 26th time she's been arrested on that charge.

"Looking at her driver's license history, it's atrocious," said Velboom, shaking his head. "Over 25 incidences of her driver's license being suspended in probably three-fourths of the counties in the state of Florida."

According to police reports, Dade City police responded to a home on Howard Avenue the evening of Feb. 21. Neighbors called complaining that cars were driving too fast down the street. The home is partially burned down and known for drug use.

Velboom said an officer pulled Miller, 37, over and asked for her license, at which point she gave him a license belonging to Kayla Kibler. Velboom said the officer didn't believe it was her license, and Miller drove off.

"The woman took off at a high rate of speed coming at the officer. He had to dive, jump out of the way to keep from getting hit," said Velboom.

Police didn't track Miller down until they found her outside the Pasco County Courthouse on Monday.

They arrested her on charges of driving on a suspended license and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

"Some people don't want to play by the rules, and that's our job to enforce it and do our best to make them play by the rules," said Velboom.

The chief said law enforcement needs to take a closer look at how someone such as Miller is still getting behind the wheel of a car.

But Miller maintains her innocence in this case. She said she was selling a truck in Land O' Lakes at the time.

"It wasn't me. I don't know what happened," said Miller. "I wasn't there, how can I say?"
