A 33-year-old man was arrested today on charges he committed a robbery at the drive-thru window of a McDonald's in Dunedin by threatening an employee with a broken beer bottle, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Jack St. Clair Burris, 431 Roanoke St., Dunedin, was charged with robbery with a weapon and aggravated assault, the sheriff's office said.

The robbery occurred at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the McDonald's at 1645 Main St., deputies said.

The suspect drove up in a white Ford Explorer and asked for change for a $1 bill. As the employee went to the cash drawer to make the change, the suspect thrust a broken beer bottle through the drive-thru window and demanded money. The employee backed away, and the suspect took the cash drawer out of the register, the sheriff's office said.

Deputies obtained a description of the suspect and the vehicle, and located Burris as he was driving in the area of Belcher Road and Solon Avenue.

When deputies stopped the Explorer, Burris threatened to hurt himself with a piece of the broken beer bottle, the sheriff's office said. Deputies calmed him, took him out of the Explorer and arrested him.
