A Treasure Island woman died this afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into another car, police said.
Loretta Upton Bissell, 69, was driving east on Central Avenue at about 1:40 p.m. in a 2003 Toyota sport utility vehicle approaching the intersection of Pasadena Avenue, police said.
She lost control of her car and crossed the median just before the Central and Pasadena avenues intersection. She was heading east in the westbound lane, police said.
As she approached the intersection, the eastbound traffic was stopped because the signal was red, police said.
Bissell struck a 2009 Jeep sport utility vehicle driven by Victor Edwards, 56, of Pinellas Park, police said. Edwards was heading south on Pasadena Avenue North.
Bissell was transported to Bayfront Medical Center, where she died just before 3 p.m., police said.
Kathleen Bourrie, a passenger in Edwards' vehicle, also was taken to Bayfront. Bourrie, 59, of Pinellas Park, was listed in serious condition, police said.
The accident remains under investigation.
