Two women had to be extricated from the car on the Howard Frankland Bridge after it was hit today by a tractor trailer.
Robert Wodnicki, 35, of Seminole, was driving a tractor trailer and tried to avoid another vehicle when he crashed into a 1995 Ford car that was inoperable and parked on the east shoulder of Interstate 275, according to St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue.
Two eastbound lanes of the bridge were shut down for a while, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The accident occurred at 4:12 p.m.
Firefighters had to extricate the women pinned in the car by removing its roof. The women were placed on backboards and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in stable condition, according to St. Petersburg Fire.
