A woman injured in a parasailing accident remains hospitalized on Monday.
Margaret Ballou, with the administration at Bayfront Medical Center, said Alejandra White, 28, is in critical condition.
White was parasailing with her fiancé, Shaun Ladd, on Sunday when a storm with strong winds came through, said Joelle Castelli, a spokeswoman for Clearwater Public Safety.
Ladd's line broke, and he fell into the water. He swam to shore with minor cuts and bruises.
White continued to drift east in the parasail. She landed on the beach and was dragged, hitting several beach umbrellas and chairs and crashing into a 4 inch by 4 inch volleyball wood stake, Castelli said.
"The wind picked up real fast and they were trying to pull her back out but she actually wrapped around the pole and hit the dirt," said Patrick Register, who tried to administer CPR to White.
Lifeguards ran to the scene and provided medical care. She was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center.
White was visiting the area from Georgia. Officials didn't know where Ladd lives or his age, Castelli said.
The accident happened at 3 p.m. near the Barefoot Beach House and the jetty, Castelli said.
The case is being investigated by Clearwater police, the U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
