A road construction worker was struck by a semitrailer early this morning on Interstate 75 just south of State Road 56.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Jesus L. Gonzales, of Haines City, a construction worker for Sema Construction, was working in the inside northbound lanes of the interstate about a mile south of the interchange. Just after midnight, the driver of a northbound tractor-trailer hit his brakes, causing the truck to swerve.
The rear of the tractor-trailer struck Gonzalez, troopers said.
The truck driver, identified as Antonio L. Graham, 34, of Decatur, Ga., was not injured.
Gonzalez, 26, was flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition, troopers said.
Troopers cited Graham with failure to use due care.
