Bullying reports
Here are excerpts from nearly 500 complaints filed during the 2010-2011 school year through the Hillsborough County school district's online bully reporting system. The Tribune obtained the complaints through Florida's public records law.
Alafia Elementary: Bully pushed son and laughed after he dropped his Valentine's Day cupcake.
Steinbrenner High: Student pushed to the ground, forced into a trash can, punched in the face.
Philip Shore Elementary: Parent upset by students and teacher shaking daughter's belief in Santa Claus.
Lewis Elementary: Boy said he had a gun and was going to blow the pimple off a fifth-grade girl's face.
Jennings Middle: Girl target of name calling, shoving, violent threats for having black friend.
Bloomingdale High: Daughter transferred out of IB school and was teased by other students as dumb. Water bottles have been thrown at her and a student deliberately ran into her in the hallway. She has threatened suicide.
Coleman Middle: Bully tripped son in bathroom then laughed. Son fell on his face, elbow and knee so hard that it caused possible ligament damage. Son was carrying a very heavy backpack and a violin.
Burns Middle: Two girls are sending nasty text and Facebook messages to another girl. They say they are going to put her in the hospital and she better have a good doctor.
