Authorities say a man whose sport utility vehicle struck a pedestrian in Clearwater in July, killing her, was under the influence at the time, and they have now charged him in the woman's death.
Jonathan Grinsted, 51, of Clearwater was arrested Friday on a charge of driving under the influence-manslaughter. He was released today from the Pinellas County Jail after posting $10,000 bail.
On July 25, at 7:45 p.m., Grinsted was parked in front of Delta Realty, 604 Mandalay Ave., Clearwater police said. He thought his 1998 Toyota SUV was in reverse when he hit the accelerator, but it was in drive, and the sport utility vehicle lurched forward, striking Ashley Boyle, 44, Clearwater police have said.
The SUV drove over Boyle, then dragged her into the business at it crashed through the window, Clearwater police have said.
At the time she was hit, Boyle was waiting out the rain under a sidewalk canopy with a friend. Her friend escaped injury.
