$700,000 lottery winner won't quit Clearwater waitress job

A $700,000 lottery prize won't keep a Clearwater waitress from going after more tips.

Alexandra Chaar, 21, who picked up the prize in the state's $1 million Monopoly Scratch-Off Game, has no plans to quit her job as a server at a Mexican restaurant.

"No way," Chaar said. "I love where I work."

She opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $700,000, according to a news release from the Florida Lottery.

Chaar, who attends St. Petersburg College, plans to use the money to pay for tuition. She told lottery officials she was a straight-A student in high school.

Chaar said she has felt lucky lately and began buying lottery tickets. She purchased the winner at Food Mart, 601 Mandalay Ave., on Clearwater Beach.

"I kept going back to the same store to buy them; the people who work there got to know me," Chaar said. "They said that up to this point, their store had never had any big winners, but I just had this lucky feeling."
