The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has removed a body that was found Monday afternoon at a Brandon home.
Detectives are trying to identify the body. The body was severely decomposed and investigators could not determine race or gender, the sheriff's office said.
The body was taken to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office, said Larry McKinnon, a sheriff's office spokesman.
Family members said Micah Rogers had lived at the home, 517 Larry Circle South. Rogers, 31, committed suicide on Valentine's Day.
Deputies went to the home about 7:10 p.m. Feb. 14 after a relative found Rogers deceased in a bedroom.
The medical examiner determined that Rogers died from carbon monoxide poisoning, which was due to a motorized scooter left running in the bedroom.
The family came to the house Monday to pick up belongings and clean the home. They found a garbage can that was sealed with tape in the backyard, the sheriff's office said. The family called the sheriff's office.
Family members said Rogers' brother, Benna, 33, has been missing for four months.
The sheriff's office is calling the investigation a suspicious death, McKinnon said.
"We are going to error on the side of caution until we can determine what occurred," McKinnon said.
It will be up to the medical examiner's office to determine if the death was a homicide, accidental or a medical issue, McKinnon said. It could take weeks for the medical examiner's office to determine a cause of death, he said.
