A 64-year-old motorcyclist is dead after a Manatee County crash today, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to a release, at 11:40 a.m. John S. Meredith of Palmetto was riding a 2009 Kawasaki at U.S. 41 near the exit ramp off State Road 93 when he struck a 2005 Chrysler van being driven by Sarsfield S. McNulty, 75, of Fairport, N.Y.
The van had stopped at a stop sign at the end of the exit ramp and didn't see the motorcycle before starting a left turn onto S.R. 45, according to the patrol.
Meredith's cycle hit the left front of the van, and he was ejected, landing in the grass meridian. He died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
Neither McNulty nor passenger Mary McNulty, 72, also of Fairport, N.Y., was injured. The van sustained $4,000 worth of damage.
McNulty has been charged with a right of way violation from a stop sign. Alcohol is not thought to have been a factor.
