Alaina "Pooh" Riggins, 26, was sentenced to five years in prison Friday morning on a federal firearms charge.
Riggins, cousin of the man accused of killing two Tampa police officers two years ago, was arrested Jan. 23, 2011, after Tampa police stopped her for turning without signaling and reportedly found a .22-caliber gun, 72 rounds of ammunition, 8.8 grams of marijuana, 1.6 grams of crack cocaine and $245 in her vehicle.
She pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in October.
Riggins is the cousin of Dontae Morris, charged in the June 29, 2010, slayings of Tampa police Officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab. Morris also is accused of killing three other people in Hillsborough County in May and June of 2010 and faces five counts of first-degree murder.
Riggins' mother, Carolyn, was fired in July 2010 from her job with the Tampa Police Department amid accusations that she withheld information that could have helped officers catch Morris.
