TAMPA PALMS - New stores are opening left and right at Market Square. Now, PetSmart has scheduled its grand opening for June 28.
The 27,000-square-foot store on Commerce Palms Boulevard opens for business June 23. It will be the first PetSmart in Tampa to have Doggie Day Camp and a PetsHotel boarding facility, which are scheduled to open in August. The store will employ 70 to 100 full-time and part-time workers.
Founded in 1986, PetSmart revolutionized the pet store business by introducing the superstore format and inviting shoppers to bring their pets to the store. A typical store carries 13,000 products. The PetSmart concept includes several in-store services, such as grooming, obedience classes and veterinary care.
The company also has made a commitment to offer adoption services, rather than selling puppies and kittens. PetSmart operates more than 1,000 stores in North America. More than 3 million homeless pets have been adopted through PetSmart Charities' Adoption Centers.
BJ's Wholesale Club was the first retailer to open in the Market Square shopping center just south of the Interstate 75/Bruce B. Downs Boulevard interchange. Several more have opened in the past month: Bed Bath & Beyond, Staples and CVS. Discount department store Ross and crafts store A.C. Moore are expected to open this summer. Electronics and appliance retailer HHGregg is under construction and scheduled to open in 2009.
