Cake decorators, puppeteers, wrestlers, animals and more will fill Hillsborough County classrooms today for the annual Great American Teach-In.
Parents and volunteers are lined up to talk about their jobs and hobbies at schools across the area.
Presenters often do demonstrations or bring equipment they use at work when they speak to students.
The line-up this year is diverse and range from light-hearted to serious. A rabbi will speak to Strawberry Crest High School about the Holocaust. Veterans, local politicians, police officers and firefighters will talk at several schools about their careers. Liberty Middle School will hear from a polygraph technician.
Meanwhile, Claywell Elementary students will meet Bayer, an Australian Shepherd from Wesley Chapel who was one of the Purina Dog Challenge champion winners this year. Mango Elementary students will learn about doll-making and cattle-ranching. Mintz Elementary is featuring a hot air balloon pilot.
Martial artists, dancers and musicians will demonstrate their skills at different schools. Marshall Middle will have motorcycles and race cars on display. Other schools will have police cars and fire trucks for children to check out.
SERVE, the Hillsborough County school district's volunteer arm, presents the Teach-In each year to show students the importance of a good education.
