Two charity golf tournaments are planned in New Tampa for early September.
The Tampa Palms Country Club Charity Classic will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club, 5811 Country Club Drive. It will benefit MDA Augie's Quest, Club Corp's Employee Partners Care Foundation and the Rotary Club of New Tampa.
The four-person golf scramble begins with a shotgun start and concludes with a barbecue and silent auction at 6 p.m. A tennis tournament, Joe vs. Pro, will be at 2 p.m.
Registration is $35 per person for the golf tournament and dinner; $25 for the tennis and dinner; or $15 to join up for dinner with a player. For information, call Andy Bianchi at (813) 872-1991.
The first Brooks-DeBartolo Golf Extravaganza, benefiting Brooks-DeBartolo Collegiate High, a charter school, will be Sept. 13 at Hunter's Green Golf & Country Club, 18101 Longwater Run.
The event also includes lunch, dinner, an auction, entertainment, goodie bags and signed team pictures with former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Derrick Brooks.
David Huerta, a member of the school's board of directors, is coordinating the event.
"We got members of the (Tampa Bay) Lightning coming out; Derrick's got a bunch of his guys coming out; and Shaun King's radio program (on WQYK, 1010-AM) will be here," Huerta said.

Mayor speaks about light rail
Mayor Pam Iorio will speak about the proposed Tampa Bay light rail transit system when the North Tampa Chamber of Commerce meets Sept. 9.
The event, open to members and prospective members, will be at the Clarion Hotel, 2701 E. Fowler Ave. Networking is at 11 a.m.; the buffet lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and the program is at 11:45 a.m.

Chamber program on transportation
Katharine Eagan, chief of service development for Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, will talk about the 1 percent sales tax referendum and how it will affect New Tampa at the Sept. 13 meeting of the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting, for members and prospective members, will be at the Pebble Creek Golf Club, 10550 Regents Park Drive. Registration and networking starts at 11:30 a.m.; lunch and the program will be at noon.

Buc will sign for charity
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Stylez G. White will sign autographs at Bucs and Bulls Heaven from 5:30 to 7:30 Tuesday.
The cost is $10 per autograph, with a minimum $15 store purchase. Autograph fees will be donated to The Better Us Foundation - a nonprofit organization started by White.

Garden club hosts coffee
The Temple Terrace Garden Club will kick off its 2010-11 club year with a coffee at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at the Woodmont Clubhouse, 415 Woodmont Ave.
The free event is open to members and guests.
Club members will present the program, "Preparing Your Garden for Winter: It's Not Too Early." A potluck lunch will follow.

Fred Karl opens series
The Tampa Bay History Center begins its 2010-11 Florida Conversations lecture series with Fred Karl, a former Florida Supreme Court justice, state legislator, Hillsborough County administrator and Tampa city attorney.
Karl will discuss his recently published autobiography, "The 57 Club: My Life in Florida Politics," at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the history center, 801 Old Water Drive.
