More than 30 years in business, Tom Morris had never had a problem with crime at his high-tech studios in Temple Terrace. That is, until Sunday night.
That's when Morris and police believe a thief or, more likely, thieves broke into Morrisound Recording Studio, 12111 N. 56th Street. Studio A went mostly untouched. But in Studio B, cables were cut and thousands of dollars worth of professional recording equipment was carted away.
The break-in has left Morris feeling ill.
"I really felt like somebody had kicked me in the stomach," he said.
The break-in has drastically cut the number of artists who can use the studios for sessions.
Some of the equipment that was stolen is covered by insurance, but Morris said some of the items are irreplaceable.
In addition to the recording equipment, other items stolen included guitars and a flat-screen television. Two platinum records and a gold record also were taken.
The platinum records were for the soundtrack to "The Crow" and the Trans Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve." The gold record was for Iced Earth's "Live in Athens."
