A judge today eased the curfews of two of the four teenagers accused of sexually assaulting a flag-football teammate at Walker Middle School.
Raymond Price-Murray, 14, and Lee Myers, 14, must now be inside their homes by 9 p.m., two hours later than the original 7 p.m. curfew.
Bryant Camareno, who represents Price-Murray, said his client's mother needs the extra time so she can run errands during the week.
Camareno said Price-Murray's mother works in Clearwater and is struggling with tasks that need her son's assistance, such as grocery shopping.
"All she's asking for is some relief," he said.
Hillsborough Circuit Judge Wayne S. Timmerman granted the request for weeknights, as long as the teen is supervised by his mother. Prosecutors didn't object.
Tim Taylor, Myers' attorney, asked for the extension so his client could take an after-school job should he find one and be able to participate in school-related activities in the coming school year.
Assistant State Attorney Kimberly Hindman asked that Myers be required to be supervised by an adult during the additional two hours. Timmerman agreed.
The two teens, along with Randall John Moye, 14, and Diemante Roberts, 15, have been charged as adults. Each faces four counts of sexual battery and has pleaded not guilty.
Each is free on $15,000 bail. In addition to the curfew conditions, they must not have contact with the victim or discuss the case with their former teammates.
In court documents released Tuesday, the victim told authorities he was assaulted on at least 10 occasions and that during each attack he told his teammates to stop. He said he was held down while the attackers used a hockey stick and a broomstick to assault him.
Taylor reiterated his client's innocence today.
"Lee Myers was not involved in any sexual assault," he said. "There is not one witness who identified him participating in a sexual assault."
In statements released Tuesday, one of the team members told investigators Myers may have been involved.
