A memorial service for Freddie Solomon is set for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa.
Solomon, 59, died Monday of colon cancer. He was a football star at the University of Tampa in the 1970s and later played for the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers.
His memorial service was announced today by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, where he was employed for more than 20 years in community relations after retiring from professional sports.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Tampa Freddie Solomon Scholarship Fund, HCSO Charities Inc. or the DeBartolo Family Foundation.
