About 25 protesters waved signs, not flags, outside a Clearwater BP station on Memorial Day morning, as the company's disastrous oil spill headed into its seventh week.
"It's terrible. Somebody needs to face criminal charges," said C.T. Taylor, holding a hand-painted "Boycott BP'' sign.
Taylor said subcontractors like TransOcean and Halliburton are partially responsible for events leading to the explosion that killed 11 people and sunk the Deepwater Horizon rig, but ultimately she blames BP.
"They knew there were issues and they continued forward with it, putting people's lives at risk, putting our ocean at risk, and they just didn't care," Taylor said.
Joe Bradley complained BP should have had an exit strategy.
"It's beyond comprehension. They're putting the whole planet in danger so they can make a dollar," Bradley said.
Few dared visit the pumps at the station at the corner of Belcher and Gulf-to-Bay.
The owner declined comment but did come outside to lower his prices 10 cents a gallon to $2.59.
The demonstration did not faze loyal BP customer Mark Berggren.
"Why starve a company for money that needs to clean up our coastline?" Berggren said. "BP is being responsible trying to clean it up."
