Regarding 'Defibrillators In Schools May Not Be Worth Expense' (Nation/World, Aug. 31):
Based on the report stating these are rarely needed and that the expense may not be worth installing them in schools, the installers of fire-sprinkler systems should rarely install on the upper floors of high rises, given that they are rarely used. In addition, those impact air bags are only used on the rare occasion. Only require them on cars of persons with known bad driving habits.
The concept of these emergency defibrillators was to prevent the deaths of those with unknown medical conditions. If the counties and states cannot afford them, perhaps PTAs could raise funds by inviting parents of children who died, and those of children who were saved, to speak about how emergencies seem to happen without notice, and unplanned.
If there is a way to prepare for unplanned emergencies, it seems worth the cost to save the lives of children.
