Watch your yard
The Tampa City Council took three hours to discuss rezoning a porch, but only 5 minutes to vote 4-3 to approve the request by Stacy Frank's F&L Towers to erect a 150-foot cell tower only 83 feet from residences. Zoning laws allow a maximum height of 80 feet and minimum distances of 300 feet from property lines.
Without discussion or regard for consequences, without considering the impact of their thoughtless decision, the council set the precedent that rules mean nothing. Tampa residents now have the privilege of living in a city where cell towers can be placed at any height or location.

Review is cynical
After attending the Saturday evening performance of "Godspell" at the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, I feel compelled to disagree with the cynical view expressed by Kathy Greenberg ("'Godspell' has a disconnect," Metro, Feb. 27). How can she say in today's world that altruism is a hard pill to swallow and in the 21st century St. Matthew might as well spit in the wind?
Thankfully, there are still plenty of people willing to feed the hungry, welcome the stranger and clothe the naked. The message of the gospel as portrayed in "Godspell" is timeless and very much alive.

Feel-good story
I had to write and say thank you for the wonderfully inspirational article about the Rev. W. James Favorite ("Influence beyond the pulpit," front page, Feb. 28). What a lovely breath of fresh air and good news to brighten up all that bad news. It makes me want to move to Tampa just to attend Beulah Baptist Institutional Church.
