Concerning Ann Woolner's "The right to be safe from guns shall not be infringed" (Other Views, March 7), we need to find a middle ground. I have been a responsible gun owner my entire life and am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, but as a concerned citizen, I am not comfortable with everyone carrying guns everywhere. Like Justice Scalia, I believe in reasonable restrictions.
Being a resident of Florida I am comforted by the fact that most places I go there may be a responsible armed citizen present who has completed firearms handling and safety courses required for a concealed-carry permit. On the other hand, I cringe at the thought of a lone gunman in a store, restaurant or church pulling a gun and firing a shot only to have possibly dozens of armed people pull their guns and begin shooting back. We should embrace responsible gun ownership, but at the same time eschew unlimited access to guns by everyone, everywhere. As is true with most things in life, education and restraint are key.
