Grameen America
I watched the film "To Catch a Dollar" last week and was moved by the human spirit and courage shown by the Grameen America microcredit borrowers. The movie is the story of Grameen America in the United States. It started in 2008 and has made small loans of $1,500 or less to 5,300 people living in poverty - a total of $15.5 million.
We could have great benefit from Grameen America here in Tampa Bay. We have neighbors who would use the loans to make their climb out of poverty. It's good for them, for our community, for the children. Some of us are working to bring a Grameen America branch here. We hope to get another showing of "To Catch a Dollar." Watch for it. It's well worth seeing.

Booster seat use
It is alarming that Florida is one of only three states that don't have a booster seat law ("Booster seat bill is back," front page, March 30). It has been proven that booster seats save lives and reduce serious injuries to children. Children ages 4 to 7 who use booster seats are 59 percent less likely to suffer severe injuries during a crash. Florida's current law is also the weakest child passenger safety law in the nation. Some may see the proposed booster seat bill as "an intrusion in family affairs," but I strongly believe that children's safety should be a priority.
