Insurance smokescreen

The insurance companies are reaping record profits. Last May Allstate bought Esurance for a billion dollars. These companies run commercials begging for your business. Why then are they crying about personal injury protection fraud and tort reform? The number of staged accidents is infinitesimal compared to the number of legitimate claims and is no threat to their profits. Fraud is sexy, so they use that as a ploy to raise your rates.

Truthfully, they don't want PIP eliminated because they make a lot of money selling PIP. They want the use of PIP restricted like the new mandatory hospital visit. Requiring an injury victim to go to the hospital within 72 hours in order to use their PIP benefits is ridiculous. However, it relieves the insurance companies from paying benefits. Ask the doctors if their malpractice premiums went down after Amendment 3 passed in 2003. You know the answer.
